If the author is ignoring the historical accuracy to write a BL mystery, then they can definitely make the main detective progressive enough to think "hm, maybe watching a woman suicide herself in front of me should make me question if I'm actually enforcing justice."
I'm tired of stories only sticking to so called "historically accurate" things when it's conservative crap and ignoring the progressive minority that existed in every era of human history.
