OK, some context (for future reference):
Argentina lost their opening game against Saudi Arabia. This means that if they didn't win today's game, they're out of groups. There's no saving them at that point. But today's game is against Mexico, easily the most difficult team in their group. Meanwhile, Mexico already has a point and only needs a draw with Argentina to give themselves a fighting chance.
As such, today's game is basically do or die.
They made it. Although they spent 60+ minutes trying to chain together an attack that looked remotely capable, somehow, Messi pulls a goal out of his ass from a great opportunistic pass from Di María and shoved that ball into the bottom right corner. It was millimeters from the post.
And that did it. That turned everything around. Messi once again unlocks the game for Argentina and gives the team a gasping breath.
They're still not qualified, but now it's a matter of staying focused and try to deliver a better performance against Poland. The danger of getting kicked out of groups is still there, but the great thing is that they aren't reliant on anyone else. As long as they can win against Poland, Argentina is through.
