Going to attempt writing original fiction

Writing this here because my therapist said writing things down solidifies commitment so...here's to committing?

I've attempted some original fiction before and have written some fanfic that were so AU they became practically original fiction. But now, I'm going to attempt writing some stuff set in a world I've made up from scratch (although it's probably better described as a world with cool stuff I like thrown together tailored to my taste). This is probably the most self-indulgent exercise ever, but I've not been doing creative writing for too long (world building isn't the same as writing creatively), so I'm gonna see if I can't get back into the swing of things.

Expect (even more) nonsense ramblings in the future. (Also yes, Nezha2 has made me want to pick up creative writing again. Just maybe not in Chinese bc literary Chinese is hard. And editing is difficult.)

Will you be writing in chinese or english? Is it going to be a chinese or western oriented setting? (Is it gonna be yaoi? :p)

Writing in English because writing in Chinese is hard. (┬┬﹏┬┬)

Will be set in an original setting inspired by Chinese-style fantasy tropes (Wuxia, Xianxia, mythology, folktales, etc.) that will use Anglophone/Latin-based words because Chinese romanization looks fucking weird and I will not be able to resist the horrible temptation of making bilingual puns that makes no sense. (I do not need to be writing stuff like "鸭子睁眼duck【大可】不闭【必】了"...)

As for yaoi...I mean, most likely given my inclinations, but it really depends on how the plot works out.

You could have Deepseek do the actual nitty gritty writing and just feed it parameters for each scene and see if that works for CN. :p

Otherwise, writing chinese setting in english is gonna feel weird, based on my experience with translations of wuxia/xianxia...

Feeding story ideas into Deepseek defeats the point of creative writing. At that point I may as well just ask Deepseek to write me a story instead of creating it myself.

As for writing Chinese setting in English, that's not quite what I'm doing. As I've been world building, part of what I've been doing is translating Chinese story tropes into English-language expressions. Part of this was inspired by the fact that a majority of Anglosphere-originated "Eastern" themed fantasy is often just typical medieval Euro-fantasy but with an "Eastern" coat of paint. Calling a knight "samurai" doesn't make it an "Eastern" fantasy.

In contrast, Japan-originated medieval Euro-fantasy (as seen in the likes of say Dungeon Meshi and Sousou no Frieren) are Japanese-style stories told using a coat of Euro-fantasy paint. While the words are Westernized, the concepts, themes and tropes are drawn from traditional Japanese storytelling.

Basically, I'm trying to do the Dungeon Meshi/Sousou no Frieren style storytelling, where the proper nouns and words are all Western, but the underlying concepts, themes and tropes are the stuff I like, which is Eastern.

Thanks! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the writing at the moment. I guess I'll see.

Writing really is one of the most therapeutic hobbies, it really allows one to work out one's problems with fictional characters in ways that is probably definitely not ethical in real life. 😆
