Honestly, I personally would prefer if they didn't kill anyone off. Why does a character have to die? Character death should be used sparingly and rarely, that's what makes it impactful when it happens. If you dictate at least one character must die per expansion...well, that's just shitty writing.
Besides, we already had about four characters die on us prior to Heart of Thorns (2 female, 1 male, 1 depending on on order choice). Albeit most of them are side characters, but a lot of them were introduced pretty early in the personal story. Then two major female characters die within hours of each other in the expansion. I mean...really, Anet? The death count is already fairly skewed towards females in the story, we need to add another two more to the tally?
Although, I agree that killing off Braham to forward Eir's characterization is kinda interesting and rarely done. On the other hand, I don't see Anet being able to handle a mother's grief very well. How many women do they actually have on the writing staff? How many of them are really aware?
If they have voice casting issues, they could just hire a different voice actor. Hell, our PC character's voice changed from core to expansion, so what's the big deal about a re-cast? It happens all the time for animated shows, Muppets and any long series with voice work. So what's the big deal? I call lazy production.
