LOL, firstly, I'm pretty sure the original meaning is meant to be disparaging and the shippers chose to read it the other way. Second, yeah, we don't know historically what the man said, that's pure fiction on the author's part, who was still writing in the Ming dynasty, so still followed a lot of the old name conventions. Third, one does not need to know the rules to still grasp the general sense of the correct address. That shit's been beaten into our brains since we're little.
