The story about Yanqing was obviously meant as a set up to the punchline referencing Doraemon. There's no reason to believe she was doing anything but joking.
Meanwhile, the story about the lion is clearly referencing 忠犬ハチ公, a significantly more serious and a RL story.
Given the different references, I think we can extrapolate the seriousness/reliability of the two stories.
