Seems like it's an expense + structure thing. The old site's code can't handle the load anymore, plus was more expensive to maintain based on the announcement.
Copy-paste from lofter works from your home page. So normally if I want to save a fic on lofter, I would hit the like button, then go to my home page and likes page, and then copy paste from there.
