I should probably stop following r/politics, because all it's doing is destroying my faith in humanity (not that I had any to begin with, but that's a different issue). I do not need to read a bunch of keyboard warriors praising state representatives for standing up to Republicans and "tearing them apart" over their bad policies. Yelling across the aisle isn't actually getting anything done. When did politics go from "playing the game to pass the laws you want" to "righteous, impotent anger for virtue points"?
Am I the only one who thinks less yelling and posturing and more actual negotiations, striking deals, and, if necessary, shady underhanded tactics are needed from politicians? How is it possible that the Democrats are able to get so much public support, but still keep losing when it comes to senate and house seats?
(Speaking of which, flipping the senate is a real possibility if the Georgia run-offs goes the Democrats' way, so go vote if you live in Georgia, and spread the message to people who do live in Georgia. Do not let this chance slip through your fingers!)
Back to my bellyaching: The Republicans managed to stay in power for way, way too long by playing a dirty game and the Democrats have done nothing to stop them. If the excuse is that the GOP has an easier time, well, maybe try harder to obstruct the GOP? How is that the GOP was able to obstruct Obama when the Democrats had a super majority in the senate, but the Democrats can't seem to do diddly shit when it's Trump in office? How can the Democrats be this incompetent? Why did you not take advantage of having a super majority to change the laws to favor Democrats when you could?
How exactly is the regular working American helped by a representative who chewed out the senate/McConnell? Other than make everyone feel superficially better that there's someone yelling at the turtle, it feels pretty fucking impotent. How about organizing the Democratic Party into a goddamn unified block so you can fight back against the Republicans? There aren't any Republicans who are willing to toe the line, so you can always bet that they'll vote in a single block, whereas Democrats are a disparate group that can't even get a fucking law passed with a super majority. Now how about arm-twisting some of those opposite the aisle into voting with the Democrats's party line for once, instead of constantly having Democrats who defect to the GOP's side on important issues?
