And yet, somehow, all of this still goes over the head of so, so many people who comment with righteous anger, questioning how dare researchers try to trick the poor people into paying for access.
Like, dudes, no, researchers do not ask to be paid (nor do they get paid). If you're gonna get angry, you should be getting pissed at science publishers who are, get this, not scientists. The fact that most people don't even realize scientists and their research are held hostage by multi-billion dollar conglomerates that control the entirety of the scientific publishing industry is just...
