I'm starting to wonder if it's worth gritting my teeth through the last bit of the show, because the story is completely falling apart, as I figured it probably would.

There is no real split between martial and civil officers. Apparently, everyone fights.
The empire's control seems to extend only to one city. Seriously, scale is so off in this show.
Things are getting really dumb. Like, holy shit, when one of the characters asked "does everyone think we're stupid?" I'm like "Yes, yes you are stupid, this is so immensely stupid I can't even, stop it, stop it right now!"
I hate main characters that only show up in the second half of a series. Like, wow, no, the party dynamic was fine as it was, stop intruding.
The two child geniuses are genuinely grating. I wish shows will stop it with the child genius. They're never interesting.
Look, I love you, 萧瑟, but ain't no way you don't kneel when the emperor shows up, I don't care how much he spoils/loves you.
Ah yes, an ally getting turned into the enemy through mind control, classic.
So many mispronunciations and misuse of words. I can't even at this point.

I've went back to re-reading 《君子盟》 fanfic. There's so little, but at least it's good. Also, the last quarter of the show was meh, but I still enjoyed the earlier parts. Might consider re-watching again because it's so rare to get decent dialogue in period dramas these days. Also 砚兰 is fucking adorable, I love them. I just wish there was room in the show for 兰珏 to help out 王砚 in return. But despite the small dissatisfaction, it's still heaps better than anything else I've seen released in the last 9 years.
