cashewI really wish Dreamwidth would update their code to support Tweet embedding. Not because I like Twitter, but because unfortunately Twitter has become a force of evil that cannot be ignored and its immediacy in delivering content has erased an entire generation's ability to click a fucking hyperlink
Case study the first:
Here is a Pillowfort user asking for the ability to embed media from other sites along with Pillowfort's own posts and stuff. The biggest concern they have is that they are unable to deliver content from off site and begin engagement natively on the Pillowfort platform. This, of course, stems from the fact that with embedding content, one can natively render the content rather than link offsite, which seems to be a huge friction hump and people are heavily reluctant to use the simple right click → open in new tab function. (Probably because people insist on doing all of their social media interaction on their phone instead of going outside and meeting people.)
Case study the second:
Here is a Twitter user trying to wrap their heads around the question of why it is so difficult for people to click an offsite link. The response is almost unanimously "I'm too lazy to click away from Twitter to interact with the content." Because apparently clicking away to read content is too much work.
Now while personally I feel that the hyperlinking option is more than adequate, apparently all my efforts to link offsite content is probably being ignored left and right because unless the material is natively delivered, people are just too fucking lazy to click a link.
WTF kind of bullshit world do we even live in anymore?
