140 cases of COVID-19 and Brazil keeps going...
This is ridiculous and stupid and I cannot believe CONMEBOL is still forcing this event through. Meanwhile, 5 of the 10 teams in the tournament has cases, some are a straight up outbreak. And the players are all paranoid about getting COVID, but have to keep playing because they're basically indentured servants at this point.
Argentina is trying to deal with this by flying their players in before each game and flying them out as soon as they finish. So far they avoided getting infected, but it feels like it's just a matter of time. So the AFA is exhausting their players through a ridiculous number of flights while not really reducing the risk of infection. I know it seems like there's less risk, but how is chartering a flight into Brazil allowing your players to reduce their exposure to unexpected sources of infection? It doesn't.
(OK, fine, Chile had a case of players being stupid and going to the barbers before a game and thus breaking the bubble; but there's no guarantee flying the players out of Brazil will preserve the bubble.)
People complain that Argentina looks tired, but how could they not? They're basically playing away game after away game with no time to get used to the location. Not to mention they don't have any rest time because of the extra hours they have to spend in flight. Have these people flown before? It's exhausting as fuck even without the pressure of competing in a sport tournament. These players are absolutely drained from all this flying; of course they're going to look tired when they finally get on the pitch.
I hope Brazil loses tons of money from this tournament because they don't deserve to make any money out of this kind of exploitation.
