I have definitely watched too many period dramas...
Monday, December 23rd, 2024 10:41Probably due to cultural indoctrination, for some reason I find Chinese men look better with their hair in a knot than the more modern hair cuts. Something about having all the hair out of the way and getting the full effect of the facial features really brings out the quality of the masculine aesthetic. Also having long hair knotted up somehow makes the head look bigger, while shorter modern cuts make the head look disproportionately small.
On the other hand, absolutely hate ponytails on men, even though it has the same effect, technically. Clearly, my brain is too focused on "Put your hair up properly, aaaaaagh!" to properly appreciate facial features.
I'm sick and my brain is getting stuck on weird shit. Also my muscles are in epic pain. Ow.

Date: 2024-12-23 08:10 (UTC)I've noticed that the hair-down style is often used in Xianxia stuff, to indicate the 仙 aspect and honestly, I kinda hate it. The BL stuff has also taken cues and started doing hair down and it also annoys me.
The only time hair-down doesn't annoy me is when the character is meant to be going to bed or relaxing at home. But if they're out and about and their hair is down, it's really obnoxious. Even women didn't put their hair down unless they were getting ready for bed, let alone the men.
So yeah, pet peeve...
