One the one hand, NYT is swearing up and down it understands that sexualized hate crimes are racially motivated. On the other hand, it's main headline report on the Atlanta murder of Asian women is all about how the murderer has a sex addiction, it's not his fault see?

I don't need to say anything more, because Vox has already gone over why blaming sex addiction is a cop-out from having a discussion on racism. Twice. Trevor Noah also explained why this shooting spree is very much the result of racism. So honestly, I don't have anything more to add to the conversation, other than:

Fuck you. Fuck you, American media. Fuck you NYT. You don't get to pretend to be progressive and care about racism, then dedicate most of your headline space to calming American guilt about racism by pretending it's not systemic.

And no, your aggressive media focus on "China" rather than "Xi Jinping" does not help. When Jamal Khashoggi was murdered, you reported MBS, not "the Saudis", was behind the operation. But when it comes to the CCP's policies, it's "China" this and "China" that. You happily feed the anti-Asian rhetoric with your words, then turn around and pretend to be shocked that racists will use these things as an excuse.
